We develop a methodology to create efficient applications
2008.02.10
The Technical University of Wrocław and HD are launching a joint project of building up an efficiency control methodology application relevant on each stage of its development.
Owing to that, in future semesters, the students of IT and Management Department as well as Electronics Department are going to work on building tools for efficiency control within their MA theses. It will be supervised by prof. Zbigniew Huzar and prof. Jan Magott.
The whole project is essentially supported by Human Dialog which provides the technological assistance of the whole enterprise since the methodology of creating efficient applications is going to emerge from our HumanSTORE system.
Within the joint project programme, we would like to develop the functionality of HumanSTORE through the possibility of introducing efficiency requirements, as the assumptions to created applications, on the very beginning of the planning stage. It will enable to control the efficiency of the created model all through the design process and implementation as opposed to its final stage when the efficiency tests are very expensive.
The introduction of efficiency requirements on the modelling level and defining project assumptions will allow to regularly estimate the efficiency of each operation in the objective area with the use of real data. Any exceedance to the efficiency requirements will be signalled by the system in a form of an adequate notice. The system will also point to those elements and codes which, in the actual system, will cause the system operation slowdown. Owing to that, designers and programmers will be able to correct efficiency errors systematically which will result in launching an optimal, ordered and easily managed code AT ONCE.
Efficiency control of creating application on each stage has got number advantages. The three most important are:
The first one is minimizing the risk of emerging inefficient applications. Owing to that, after correcting currently submitted errors the system will in all likelihood go through efficiency tests according to former assumptions.
The second advantage is shortening the time of forming an application as a result of the elimination of optimization phase AFTER efficiency tests have been run.
Last but not least, the effect of the control will also verify the efficiency of all remaining system functions. As commonly known, creating efficiency tests meeting this criterion is very expensive and often impossible to carry out.
